The GPS receiver uses the WGS-84 reference ellipsoid Model of sea level to calculate elevation. This model has a smooth spherical shape and this means that the "altitude" value displayed on screen is the elevation above this Model and not the real sea level. Does what it's supposed to do, but there are 2 issues: the map is not a means of coordinate input (just a map) and switching apps to look up coordinates (or anything, really) turns on GPS coordinate autofill. The second issue prevents you from switching to another app as you type in lengthy coordinates. The app infuriatingly replaces what you typed in with your current location. The solution is to write down a location's coordinates before opening this app.
Why does "bug fixes" require extra permissions? Edit. Another update, another unexplained permission. Uninstalled.
